Obtaining a Marriage License
I am also responsible for completing and returning the marriage license to the issuing County. Florida law does not require witnesses, but to be married in Florida you must have a marriage license. Your marriage license is valid for a period of 60 days after issuance.
Licenses are issued to both Florida residents and non-residents. Applicants must be 18 years old and must appear in person to obtain a license. A picture-type I.D. with the date of birth must be provided (drivers license, passport, military I.D., etc.). As of January 1, 1999, the applicants must provide their social security number pursuant to the federal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act.
Licenses are issued immediately and must be used within sixty (60) days from the “effective date”. Marriage Licenses maybe obtained Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding legal holidays. Marriage Licenses can be used anywhere in Florida. Licenses may be obtained from any Florida County Administration Office or any county courthouse in Florida.
A Marriage License is $88.50 (cash only). The only exception is for Florida residents that have provided proof of a premarital class. In that case, the Florida resident’s fee is reduced to $56.00. Blood tests are not required for anyone. This is a separate fee paid directly to the issuing County. It is not part of my fee. A $50.00 nonrefundable retainer is required to schedule your wedding with Weddings & Notary at Your Door.
If either applicant is under the age of 18 but at least 16, the Clerk’s office is authorized to issue a marriage license if the applicants provide written consent of their parents or guardian.
